so..ich hab keinen schimmer, was ich mit diesem text anfangen soll...pilateist wohl die amerikanische form von "Pilatius"...

Naja, was damit gemeint ist, weiss ich ja (In den Dreck legen, Arme und Beine an den Körper und denn "engelchen" machen, und dem Man die Arme hoch und runter und die Beine außeinander und zusammen tut. Macht man eigentlich als kleines Kind im Schnee.). Aber irgendwie hätt ich das jetzt auch nicht erklären müssen. Wissen normalerweise eh alle.
Vielleicht hat es was mit dem Buch "Ismael" zu tun, welches Eddie ja gelesen haben soll zu der Zeit.
Oder...warte mal...

Das sich "der Westen" in den "Südosten" ausbreitet und dort fröhlich Land beschlagnahmt?
Oder im Bezug auf Israel und die Vertreibung der Palästinenser? Das würd dann auch mit meiner untrigen Interpretation der 2. Strophe zusammenpassen.

Dass ein Mann dazu fähig ist, ganze Völker (schlecht) zu beeinflussen/zu unterdrücken etc. und das als Gut dargestellt wird?

Die einsicht, etwas falsches zu tun/getan zu haben, sich dafür zu schämen, und trotzdem ist ein kleiner Teil von einem Stolz darauf?

"I think 'Pilate' was the question I was asking myself, and 'Low Light' was the answer, the realization. Have you ever read The Master and the Margarite (by Mikhail Bulgakov)? I just read that book, and at the ned they talk about Pontius Pilate being all alone on a mountain with his dog. He couldn't sleep and couldn't function. It really struck me hard, because at that point I was feeling very alone. I've always had this recurring dream about being old and just me and my dog sitting on the proch. It wasn't necessarily a sad dream or a premonition, but it did get me to thinking about why Pilate was so alone and freaked. Then I realized he didn't get to finish his conversation with Jesus - that's why he can't function, because he never got to tie up the loose ends in his life. Later I was playing the guitar, and I was hit so hard by this amazing emotion. In that moment the words "low light" came out, and somehow those were the only words to explain what I was feeling. It was a kind of gratefulness at finding that place of clam and peace at my center and and getting a glimpse of the person I could choose to be. It was the purest happiness that I've experienced in a long time, that particular emotion. God, I thought I was going to explode. I feel very lucky to have been able to put it down on tape that morning anbd work through it until it became a song."

warum? Jeff hat doch Pilate in keinster weise interpretiert? ich finde deine Version sogar seeehr eingängig.
man kann das vieleicht mehr verallgemeinern und nicht auf nen konkreten koflikt beziehen.

ich würde das jetzt als eine versuchte reflektion eines älteren mannesbspw. sehen, der sein leben malt...er stellt sich die frage: "was habe ich getan/vollbracht..."

unbekümmertheit am anfang, leidenschaft und feuer der Jugend.
danach das streben nach macht, wie dus beschrieben hast....am ende dann die frage...

...ob es richtig war. Und die Einsicht, nicht immer alles richtig gemacht zu haben. Wie Pontius Pilatus.
